Designing Futures, Honouring Heritage
Designing Futures, Honouring Heritage
Mangaluru Design Summit 2026 was conceived as a platform to bring together designers, architects, urban thinkers, sustainability advocates, students, and community leaders to discuss the future of Mangaluru through the lens of design, heritage, ecology, and innovation.
As Lead Designer, I was responsible for creating the visual identity of the summit and translating it across every major touchpoint, ensuring a cohesive and recognizable experience before and during the event.

Building a visual identity for a growing design community
Building a visual identity for a growing design community
The challenge was to create a brand identity that felt deeply connected to Mangaluru while remaining contemporary, adaptable, and scalable across digital and physical environments.
The identity needed to communicate the summit’s commitment to heritage, sustainability, innovation, and community engagement while serving as the foundation for all event communications.

Designing a platform for Mangaluru’s creative community.

Mangaluru Design Summit 2026 was created to bring together designers, architects, urban thinkers, sustainability advocates, students, and community leaders through a shared conversation about the future of the city.
The goal was to build a visual identity that could represent both Mangaluru’s cultural roots and its forward-looking aspirations. Every element of the brand was designed to create a sense of connection, belonging, and collective progress.

The identity was designed as a flexible system rather than a standalone logo. Every application, from digital screens and social media to event collateral and merchandise, followed a consistent visual language built around the summit’s core values.
A warm earthy palette, clean typography, and adaptable layouts helped create a recognizable presence across every touchpoint while maintaining clarity and accessibility.
The result was a cohesive brand experience that could scale seamlessly across print, digital, and on-ground event environments.

Two weeks before the summit, the newly designed identity was officially unveiled by Hon’ble MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, marking the first public introduction of the Mangaluru Design Summit brand.
The reveal represented more than the launch of a logo. It signaled the beginning of a design movement that aimed to bring together creatives, students, professionals, and community leaders under a shared vision for the future of Mangaluru.
Seeing the identity move from sketches and concepts into a public-facing symbol was a defining milestone in the project, transforming the brand from an idea into something the community could recognize, connect with, and rally behind.

With the visual identity established, the next challenge was introducing the summit to the public in a way that felt both familiar and forward-looking. The event poster became the primary communication piece, carrying the newly launched brand across social media, print, and promotional channels.
The design combined the summit’s modern visual language with references to Mangaluru’s cultural heritage, creating an announcement that felt rooted in place while remaining contemporary and accessible.
As one of the first public-facing applications of the identity, the poster played a key role in building awareness, generating curiosity, and creating a recognizable presence ahead of the event. It helped transform the brand from a symbol into a visible invitation for the design community to come together.

Extending the identity beyond the screen.
Extending the identity beyond the screen.
A successful event brand needs to work far beyond logos and posters. The identity was designed as a flexible system that could be applied across merchandise, giveaways, and physical touchpoints while maintaining a consistent visual presence.
Branded items such as apparel and event souvenirs helped transform the identity into something participants could interact with, carry, and remember long after the summit concluded. These applications reinforced recognition while creating a stronger connection between the event and its community.
The simple line-based construction of the logo allowed it to adapt seamlessly across different materials, production methods, and scales without losing clarity. From embroidery to engraving, the identity remained recognizable and cohesive across every touchpoint.

While the identity provided the visual foundation, the success of the summit relied on months of planning, coordination, and on-ground preparation. From setting up exhibition spaces and sponsor stalls to installing branding across the venue, every detail contributed to creating a cohesive event experience.
This phase focused on translating the brand from digital assets into a physical environment that attendees could experience and interact with. Signage, wayfinding, event collateral, and branded touchpoints were carefully implemented to ensure consistency across the venue.
The preparation process highlighted the scale of the summit and the collective effort behind it, turning an empty venue into a space ready to host conversations, collaborations, and creative exchange.

Event day: where the brand met its community.
Event day: where the brand met its community.
After months of planning, design, and preparation, the summit came to life as designers, students, architects, entrepreneurs, and creative professionals gathered for two days of conversations, learning, and collaboration.
The identity that began as a logo system became a living experience across stages, presentations, wayfinding, merchandise, social media, and attendee interactions. Every touchpoint worked together to create a consistent and recognizable presence throughout the event.
The summit featured talks, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, and networking opportunities that encouraged meaningful dialogue around design, sustainability, culture, innovation, and the future of Mangaluru. The event successfully brought together diverse voices from across disciplines under a shared vision of community-driven growth.
For me, this was the most rewarding phase of the project—seeing the identity function exactly as intended, not just as a visual system, but as a catalyst for engagement, participation, and connection.

Beyond the stages, speakers, and installations, the summit experience extended into the campus itself. The outdoor spaces became natural gathering points where attendees connected, exchanged ideas, and continued conversations between sessions.
The event environment reflected the summit’s core vision of community, collaboration, and shared learning. Surrounded by Mangaluru’s distinctive landscape and heritage-rich setting, participants experienced design not just through presentations, but through meaningful interactions and spontaneous discussions.
These moments highlighted what made the summit special—bringing together people from different disciplines in a space designed to encourage curiosity, connection, and collective growth.
The success of the event was measured not only by attendance, but by the conversations, relationships, and creative exchanges that continued beyond the conference rooms.
